MahaGauri Painting - Hindu Goddess Art by Pieter Weltevrede and more wall art, posters, wallpapers available on sagarworld.com founded by Ramanand Sagar

Goddess Maha Gauri is one of the nine forms of Nav Durga or Nine Durga. She is worshipped on the eighth day of Navratri - the nine divine nights dedicated to fierce Goddess Durga. Thus, she is an aspect of Goddess Durga. Her complexion is completely white, and hence, she is called Gauri. The legend of Maha Gauri is related to Hindu God Shiva and Parvati. Parvati did penance for thousands of years to convince Shiva to be her husband. Performing tapas for such a long time caused her skin to be covered with mud and dirt. Shiva then cleansed her body with the water of the Ganges and Parvati's form that appeared was glowing white.

This form came to be known as Maha Gauri. She is believed to fulfill all the wishes of her devotees.

She is depicted as four-armed, seated on a bull, holding trident, conch, and two headed-drum.
