Hindu god Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. He is also known as Ganapati, Vinayaka, Pillaiyar and Binayak, and is one of the best-known and most worshiped deities in the Hindu pantheon. His image is found throughout India, Sri Lanka, Fiji, Thailand, Bali (Indonesia), Bangladesh and Nepal.
Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles,the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect and wisdom. As the god of beginnings, he is honored at the start of rites and ceremonies.
He is depicted as four-armed holding elephant goad and damru (two-headed drum), and playing flute in a dancing pose. This pose is also known as Nritya (dancing) Ganesha.
