Ashwarooda Painting - Hindu Goddess Art by Pieter Weltevrede and more wall art, posters, wallpapers available on sagarworld.com founded by Ramanand Sagar

Goddess Ashwarooda emanated from Goddess Tripura Sundari. Once an asura (demon) called Bhandasura wreaked havoc in the universe, tormenting Devas (demi-gods). Bhandasura was blessed that he could be killed by a woman who wouldn't have born from another woman's womb. Tripura sundari, who is also an aspect of Goddess Parvati, the wife of Hindu God Shiva, created a Goddess from her Pasha (noose). From her noose emanated a Goddess with a cavalry of horses. She was riding a horse and hence, named as Ashwarooda. She holds a golden rod in her hand called as Dandam. The Dandam controls mind and senses. Ashwarood with her Dandam defeated Bhandasura.

She is depicted as four-armed, holding dandam, lotus, noose, and riding a horse named Aprajita.
