Krishna a major deity in Hinduism. He is worshipped as the eighth avatar of the god Vishnu and also by some as the supreme God in his own right
Kaliya Nag was a venomous snake residing in river Yamuna in Vrindavan. Once, when Krishna with his cow herd boys were playing, ball fell into the Yamuna river. To fetch the ball back, Krishna jumped into the river. All the people of village Gokul along with Krishna's foster parents Nanda and Yashoda came hurriedly at the river bank, weeping for Krishna. At the bottom of the river, Kaliya tied Krishna around himself. Krishna grew huge and Kaliya had to release him. Krishna regained his original size and brought Kaliya above the surface in front of the villagers, dancing on his hoods, beating him with his feet. Kaliya started vomiting his poison.
Kaliya and his wives prayed Krishna for mercy. Krishna pardoned him, releasing him and ordering to leave river Yamuna.
