Demon King Tarkasur had acquired a boon from Brahmaji after strong penance. He got a boon that he would be killed only by the son of Shiva and Parvati and no one else could kill him. After getting the boon, Tarkasur became invincible, attacked devlok and took over devlok. Worried Devtas go to Devi Ganga. Ganga asks them to wait till Shiva and Parvati’s son is born. With the prayers of devtas and Kamdev’s efforts, Shiva and Parvati meets and Kartikeya is born.

Tarkasur thinks of killing Kartikeya and sends his two sons Vishalaksh and Vidhnasur to kill Kartikeya. Both these could not succeed in killing Kartikeya. Then Tarkasur sends his third son Tarkaksha to kill Kartikeya. Devtas try to stop Tarkaksha but fails to do so. Tarkaksha kidnaps Kartikeya, acquires him in his stomach and comes back to Asurlok. Tarkasur orders Tarkaksha to take out Kartikeya from his stomach and kill him. With repeated efforts also, Tarkaksha could not take out Kartikeya from his stomach. To save his father’s life, Tarkaksha drinks poison. The poison does not affect Kartikeya but Tarkaksha flutters with pain. With the boon of lord Shiva Tarkaksha is saved. Once again, to save his father’s life, Tarkaksha wants to give away his life by jumping from Tripur (the three worlds) so that Kartikeya also dies along with him. Tarkaksha jumps from Tripur but lord Shiva saves him. Angry with this, Tarkaksha challenges Shiva for a war. A fierce battle is fought between them and in the end Shiva kills Tarkaksha and awards him deliverance. After the death of her husband, Tarkaksha’s wife Surabhi also surrenders herself to fire and kills herself.

Seeing Tarkaksha’s devoted love for his father, Devi Ganga and all the devtas praises him saying that a son like Tarkaksha was born in Asurlok who gave away his own life to save his father.
